Bob/finger waves

Bobs and curling

Equipment

·         Curling tongs

·         Pin tail comb

·         Backcombing brush

·         Bobby pins

·         Hairbrush

·         Hairspray

Method

1.       Firstly I put the hair into a side parting and sectioned off two side sections from behind the ear.

2.       I started on the bigger side of the parting and decided what direction I wanted my curls to go in.  I set them out in a triangle pattern so I could create a nice finger wave once removed.

3.       I waited for the tongs to warm up then started barrel curling and pinning into place, making sure I kept to the triangle pattern.

4.       Next I moved onto the other side section.  I decided I wanted those curls to sit behind the ear so I curled and pinned the hair in a diagonal pattern and pinned into place.

5.       I then moved onto the back section.  I took a top layer of hair and barrel curled it and pinned it to let it cool.  I decided to do another layer as well so I had a thicker layer of curls once I had taken it down.

6.       I took the underneath section and backcombed it neatly and slightly so I had a padding of hair.  I used a hair band to tie a loose ponytail and pulled the band right to the end.

7.       Then I rolled the hair underneath itself into a bob shape and used bobby pins to keep it secure.

8.       Next, I went back to the bigger side section and removed all of the barrel curls.  I brushed them all out thoroughly and they went quite fluffy.  You can use some vita point on the hair if this is going to ruin your design, it is a leave in conditioner that smooths out the hair.

9.       Then with my comb, I pushed the hair up into a wave and pinned into place.

10.   I repeated the same steps to the other side of the hair but instead of putting it into a wave, I slicked it back behind the ear and pinned into place.

11.   To finished I let down all the curls at the back of the head and let them fall over the bob.  I pinned pieces up and into the padding of hair to give the illusion of a 1920’s style bob.

I found it quite difficult to create this look as I need to practise on my finger waves.  My models hair was also very thick so I think I should’ve used smaller tongs instead of the medium size ones because my waves and curls were not that prominent.
