Overall, I did enjoy the Goodbye
to Berlin project although I did find there was a lot of work and research
involved. I do understand that it is
vital to do lots of research to support my ideas, and I did the best I
could. I also felt I rushed my
contemporary character slightly, so next time I would start my research
earlier.
My favourite part of the project
was the contemporary character. I loved
the way we could link 1920’s with current fashion and make up with valid
research behind both. I also liked the
idea of club culture and how artists are influenced by it today. Watching Party Monsters was great too, as I
wouldn’t of thought to watch that in my own time. I like discussing films in class as it is
good to see other peoples views on different scenes.
I feel I struggled with the
creative side of the project. This is
something I struggle with on most projects as I like to think of my own unique
ideas. I don’t like to choose the same
ideas from films I’ve seen or books I’ve read.
I find watching theatre productions and taking pictures of random things
help me with ideas. I find I am able to
look into things deeper and pull certain things apart, such as colour theory.
I also enjoyed swapping designs
with a partner because it was interesting to see their application techniques
and how they interoperate your designs.
This is why it is extremely important to swap designs with your partner
before the assessment as you need plenty of time to think about their design
and how you are going to manage you time.
For example, when I was creating Bryony’s design, we both decided
together that I need to set and prep her hair beforehand. So we arranged to meet an hour before so I
had extra time to be sure all of the hair was set in time to start the
assessment.
I didn’t really like having to
grade my partner on creating my design.
I didn’t want to be too harsh or too generous, but as Bryony created my
design so well, I think I scored her fairly as there were only a few faults.
Next time, I feel I could manage
my time management on my blog a little better.
I downloaded an app on my phone and ipad, so I am going to blog on the go
or when I have gaps between seminars. I
think this will encourage me to do more blogging because if I see something
that inspires me, I can capture it and put it on my blog there and then.
In general, I did like this
project. It was great how we had two
elements to it so we could really show our individual creative sides. I would like to do something like this
project again but with different era’s because I like finding similarities that
other people may not notice.
