Leigh Bowery was from Australia, he was a performance artist, club promoter, actor, pop star, model, and fashion designer, based in London. Leigh is considered as a club culture icon and was very influential on fashion designers and artists. He influenced huge designers such as, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood!
He was very popular in bars and clubs, and he soon moved in with two friends, Guy Barnes and David Walls - they were known as 'The Three Kings'. Bowery then decided to go on and design some clothing himself which feature at London, New York and Tokyo fashion week, he then opened up a night club called Taboo.
The image on the left above was designed by Leigh Bowery himself, the image on the right is a piece designed by Alexander McQueen. You can see the similarities through the checked pattern and the ruffles represented in different ways and places.
From what I have read, Leigh Bowery was a really cool icon in the 80's and to me reminds me of current stars such as Lady Gaga. She has lots of influence on people and designers nowadays, and has such a big fan base - as did Leigh Bowery.
