Party Monsters

I really enjoyed watching Party Monsters, although it was weird and very strange, it helped visually to understand what Club Culture was all about.  Throughout the film I was picking up on fashion and makeup, as well as looking for similarities with Cabaret.  I noticed quite a few, so I am going to go through them below.

 

Near the beginning of the film, I noticed Michael who was one of the main characters, getting ready for a show.  This reminded me of the scene we first see Sally in when she is getting ready to perform at the club.  They are both applying their makeup and sorting their hair whilst looking into a mirror and I just instantly thought of Sally when I saw Michael.  I also picked up that he has the same attitude to Sally - they both want to be the best and steal the show.

I also noticed that Michael was desperate to have a boyfriend or a bestfriend.  This reminded me of Sally being desperate to have sex with Herr Schultz/Brian.  Throughout the film, I realised that Michael had green nails - as did Sally!  As drag was so popular through the club culture years, I found that having blocked out eyebrows and redrawn ones were quite fashionable.  The same fashion that was in the 1920's.
